Unpopular opinion: the old guy at the supply counter in Gary gave better advice than any book
Stopped in for some 1/8 inch 7018 rod last month and the guy behind the counter asked what I was welding. Told him a small pressure vessel repair and he said to run a root pass slower than I think I need. Tried it on a test plate first and the bead came out cleaner than anything I've laid down in a while. Been doing this 11 years and a 30 second chat beat a whole stack of manuals. Anybody else get their best tips from counter guys instead of the classroom?
