The flange alignment I shouted through was my own fault
Got called out on a job near Gary last month, we had a 30 inch header that kept fighting us on the bolt-up, turned out I'd been reading the elevation marks off the wrong benchmark the whole morning. My lead just stood there and said 'check your datum before you blame the pipe', after 6 hours of wrestling it we re-shot everything and the fit came in square. Anyone else had a simple setup error cost them a full shift instead of the pipe being the problem?

That "check your datum before you blame the pipe" line hits hard. I've been there where you just know it's the material or the fit, then it turns out you were the whole problem the entire time. It's brutal because you lose the whole day and you're just standing there tired and feeling dumb. But honestly, that's the kind of mistake you only make once, because now you'll double check those marks every single time. Good on your lead for saying it straight instead of letting you keep fighting it.
