Can we talk about how long a simple tube patch can actually take...

Spent 4 hours on a tube header repair last Tuesday that I figured would be a 45 minute gig... turned out the corrosion was hiding a crack that just kept growing every time I tried to weld it. Has anyone else run into hidden damage that ate up your whole shift?

Started out thinking I'd just weld up a tiny pinhole and be done in 30 minutes... three hours later I was grinding back yet another crack that just kept showing up. That moment when you realize the whole section is basically rotten and you gotta cut out way more than you planned always hits different. Had to stop and grab more filler rod halfway through because what I brought wasn't nearly enough. Sometimes I swear these tubes are just waiting for you to start so they can show you how much they're really messed up underneath...
