Debating focus modes: manual vs auto for night shots

I used to always shoot on autofocus, but last month at a concert I kept getting blurry lights. Then a friend said their manual focus setup nailed every shot. Which side do you land on for low light situations like that?

My first try at manual focus for night shots was basically me twisting the lens ring for five minutes while the band played two full songs. But after practicing in my backyard with a streetlight, I got the hang of it and now my concert shots actually look like the band instead of a blurry ghost. Your mileage may vary but I say manual gives you way more control when the autofocus is hunting around in the dark.

Honestly, three blurry photos out of 200 isn't really a crisis worth ditching autofocus over.
