My 4th attempt at a true crime binge finally stuck

I've tried getting into true crime docs about 4 times now and always bailed by episode 2. Last week I gave The Staircase another go and something finally clicked, maybe it was the pacing or just being in the right mood. I ended up watching 5 episodes in one sitting on a rainy Saturday, which NEVER happens for me. The way the defense lawyer talked about the evidence just pulled me in and I couldn't look away. Has anyone else had a show that only worked on a second or third try? What made it stick for you?

The "finally clicked" part really hit home for me. My friend Sarah had the exact same thing happen with Making a Murderer, she tried it twice and gave up both times. Then last year she was stuck at home with a cold and put it on just for background noise, and suddenly she was hooked. She texted me at like 2am like "I get it now, this is all I think about." She ended up binging the whole thing in three days and even rewatched the first season right after. I guess sometimes the right mood or timing changes everything.
