My office chair collapsed during a Zoom call on Tuesday

I was in the middle of a weekly team meeting when my chair just gave out underneath me. The gas cylinder shot out and the seat dropped about 6 inches with a loud bang. My coworkers saw the whole thing on camera lol. Anybody have recommendations for a decent chair under $200 that won't do this after a year?

The slowly sinking over a month part got me. That's almost worse because you have to watch it happen and know the whole time it's coming. At least my chair had the decency to go out with a bang, right? Now every time I sit down I check the gas cylinder like it owes me money. But honestly, the real question is why are office chairs designed to fail after like 18 months? You spend a hundred bucks and you're lucky to get two years out of it. I'm starting to think the whole industry is built on planned obsolescence for pneumatic parts.

Dude, at least you got a show out of it, my chair just slowly sank over a month until my chin was level with the desk.
