Just realized the guy at the tire shop in Dayton was quoting me prices from a screen he never looked up from
I sat in the waiting room for 40 minutes last Friday and watched him type the same three numbers into the same computer for every single customer who walked in. When I asked why my quote was $40 higher than the one I got on the phone, he said the system adds a shop fee, which nobody mentioned before. Has anyone else caught a place padding the bill with fees that only show up when you're already stuck in the chair?

Sounds like a guy doing his job with a screen that adds standard fees, not some big scam. Every tire shop I have been to tacks on a shop fee, a disposal fee, and a valve stem charge, and yeah, it stings when the phone quote turns out low. Being annoyed about a $40 surprise is fair, but calling it padding the bill feels like a stretch.
