A client's push to avoid permits put me in a spot
I knew it was wrong, but saying no meant walking away from pay. Still, I slept better knowing I did the right thing.

Remember my buddy's unpermitted garage that got condemned?

Honestly people get the wrong idea about permits. They act like it's just red tape and fees. It's really about stopping someone's new deck from collapsing. Or making sure the electrical work doesn't burn the house down. That's the part clients never want to hear.

Spot on. Seriously, permits are there for a reason. My cousin tried to wire his own shed and almost started a fire. Another time, a guy down the street built a deck without one, and it sagged badly after a year. People cut corners to save cash, but then they're stuck with unsafe junk. It's not just rules, it's basic safety.
