Spent 60 bucks on a wireless temp probe and it already paid for itself

Honestly I was skeptical about spending 60 bucks on a Meater probe because I figured my old wired thermometer was fine. But after ruining two briskets last summer because the wire slid out and I didn't notice until it was too late, I caved. First cook with it was a 12 pound pork shoulder and I could actually check the temp from inside while watching football. No more running outside every 20 minutes to peek at the smoker. The only downside is the range drops off if you go too far into the house, like past the kitchen. But for the price of one brisket it saved me from another dry mess. Has anyone else tried those cheaper knockoff versions or should I stick with this one?

@val949 nailed it, 60 bucks is cheap compared to ruining another packer. Plus you factor in the time you spent trimming and babysitting that thing for 12 hours, it gets even more expensive in your patience. I've seen those Inkbird and ThermoPro wireless ones on sale for like 30 bucks and people say they work okay but the range is even worse and the app glitches out mid cook. Totally not worth the headache when you're trying to impress a crowd on a Sunday afternoon. Stick with the Meater unless you enjoy panic checking your phone every ten minutes.

60 bucks beats ruining another 30 dollar brisket every time.

My buddy Dave tried to do a brisket last summer for the fourth of July. He watched like five YouTube videos and trimmed it up all nice. Put it on his offset smoker at 6 AM and thought he had it dialed in. Around 2 PM the temperature spiked and by dinner time it was like chewing on a leather shoe. Everyone just ate potato salad and hot dogs while he sat there staring at this dry hunk of meat. He spent $55 on that packer and the whole thing went in the garbage. Now he just buys smoked brisket from a place down the road and brings it to cookouts. That $60 is basically insurance against a ruined holiday.
