My 30-year-old sewing machine beat the new one I got for $80
Picked up a vintage Singer 457 at a garage sale in Wichita for $30 last month, mainly as a backup for the $80 modern Brother I bought at a thrift store. Ran both through a denim repair project and the old Singer just chewed through it without a single hiccup, while the Brother jammed twice on the same seam. I think it's the metal gears versus the plastic ones, honestly. Anyone else find that older machines outwork the newer budget stuff, or did I just get a lemon?
