My sourdough starter finally worked after I read it needs a specific temperature range
Found out it needs to stay between 75 and 80 degrees, which I learned from a note in my grandma's old cookbook. Anyone else have a simple trick for keeping starter warm without a fancy proofing box?

Actually, that temperature range is way too strict. My starter does fine on the kitchen counter most of the year. People get too hung up on perfect conditions. If it's really cold, just stick the jar on top of the fridge where it's a bit warmer. All that fussing can stress the culture out more than a few degrees of temperature.

My grandma used to keep hers in the pantry with a tea towel over it, no fancy gear at all. It always made the best pancakes!
