My chocolate chip cookies turned into one giant cookie blob
I was baking a batch for my friend's birthday last Thursday and accidentally used melted butter instead of softened. The whole tray of 12 cookies just spread and fused together in the oven into one giant, flat, crispy sheet. My roommate Sam walked in and said it looked like a cookie pizza. Has anyone else had a butter disaster like this, and how do you fix it?

Oh man, the "cookie pizza" thing is too real. I read a whole article once that said melted butter makes the dough spread way too fast before it sets. Your butter needs to be just soft enough that your finger leaves a dent, but not oily at all. I did the same thing with shortbread and got a greasy puddle. Next time, try chilling your dough balls for like an hour on the tray before baking, it helps a ton.

Yeah that butter trick is legit. I ruined like three batches of cookies before I learned the dent thing. Chilling is key for real.

Chill that dough overnight if you can, it makes a HUGE difference for texture and spread.
