My chocolate cake turned into a volcano at my mom's birthday party
I was baking in my tiny apartment kitchen for her 60th, trying a new recipe that called for 2 cups of buttermilk. I guess I mixed the baking soda in too early, because when I put the pans in the oven, batter started bubbling over the sides like crazy. Within 10 minutes, my oven was smoking and there were black drips everywhere. I had to pull them out, scrape off the burnt tops, and basically glue the two sad layers together with a ton of frosting. It looked terrible but actually tasted fine. Has anyone else had a cake just completely overflow like that?

Did you use a different pan size?

Pan size? I mean, I just used whatever was clean, which is a miracle in itself. My baking is more about luck than skill, honestly.
