Quick warning about stale bread and soup
I was making soup last night in my kitchen and tossed in some bread that I thought was just a little hard, turned out it had mold spots I didn't catch in the dim light. Had to dump the whole pot and start over, cost me $12 in ingredients. Anyone else ever ruin a meal by missing something obvious like that?

Wait, is nobody going to point out that a tiny bit of mold on bread probably wouldn't ruin a whole pot of soup? I mean, sure, if it's covered in green fuzz that's one thing, but you said it was just some spots you missed. I've been known to just cut off the bad part and toss the rest in, especially if it's going into a hot soup where the heat would kill off any bacteria anyway. A little waste of bread is better than wasting $12 worth of ingredients, right?

Back when I worked at a diner the cook would scrape mold off cheese blocks and nobody ever got sick.
