Heard a cashier say "have a good one" and meant it

I was at the CVS on Elm Street yesterday, having a terrible day after my car broke down. The cashier, a guy named Marcus, looked me right in the eye and said "have a good one" like he actually cared. It was such a small thing but it made me stop and think about how a little kindness can really turn things around.

@faith_carter I feel that. You're right that a lot of times it's just muscle memory. But what hit me about this post is how something small and automatic can still feel real in the right moment. It's like we're all just going through the motions until someone snaps us out of it with a genuine look or tone. Makes you wonder how many other tiny moments we miss because we're half asleep at the checkout or scrolling through our phones.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but in my experience those checkout lines are so robotic sometimes. Cashiers say the same three phrases over and over all day, so it's hard to tell if they really mean it or if they're just going through the motions. Your mileage may vary, but I've heard that exact same line from people who looked half asleep.

Used to roll my eyes at stuff like that. Figured it was all just corporate training scripts. But then one day a cashier actually saw me crying and told me to take care of myself. Felt different.
