Vent: a groundhog chewed through my whole beet row in 2 days
I checked on my raised beds Monday morning and every single beet top in the 4x8 box was gone, just nubs poking out of the dirt. Set up a cheap trail cam from the garage and caught the fat little guy coming back Tuesday at 6:15am like he owned the place. In one weekend he wiped out 22 beet seedlings and half my carrot sprouts, which took me 6 weeks to get going from seed. My neighbor said the flickering pinwheels stuck in the dirt worked for him, so I put 5 of those in and so far no new damage. I also threw some hardware cloth over the box as backup, which honestly I should have done in April. Does anyone have a trick that actually works, or am I just going to be fighting this thing all season?
