PSA: I spent 3 years planting tomatoes too close together

Did the same thing my first year. Ended up with this huge tomato jungle that was impossible to pick through and got all moldy.

Got a buddy who did this with his cherry tomatoes. He planted like 12 plants in a 4x4 bed thinking more was better. By July you couldn't even walk near it, it was a solid wall of vines and leaves. He lost half the crop to rot because nothing got any airflow. When I helped him clean it out in the fall we found like 30 pounds of tomatoes that had just moldered on the ground. He still brings it up every time we talk about gardening, says it was the dumbest thing he ever did in his life.
