Can we talk about using eggshells as fertilizer? I was skeptical but now I'm not so sure.

I started adding crushed eggshells to my tomato beds last spring after reading about it online. First few weeks, nothing seemed different. But around July, my neighbor's plants looked way better than mine, and I noticed she didn't do anything special. So now I'm wondering: did the eggshells actually help my soil, or was it just the compost and rain? I've heard both sides - some say calcium helps prevent blossom end rot, others say it takes way too long to break down. What's your experience with eggshells in the garden? Did you really see a difference or is it just a myth that won't die?

I mean you said it yourself, "it takes way too long to break down." I've never seen any real difference from eggshells in my garden, and I've been at this for years. If you're getting good results, it's probably just the compost and rain doing the heavy lifting.

Three years of eggshells in my garden and the only thing they've ever done is make me feel like I'm getting a head start on a chicken graveyard. Think I'll stick with coffee grounds.
