Hot take: those $20 stone pavers at the big box store are a scam

Found out last week that the cheap pavers from Home Depot are made with way less concrete than the ones from a local landscape supply yard. I weighed one of each and the difference was almost 5 pounds per paver. Has anyone else switched to buying from a supplier instead?

Did you check if the Home Depot ones are actually the same size or just lighter?

Wait wait wait, hold up. You're telling me the ones I've been using are actually DIFFERENT sizes? No way. I just grabbed a pack at Home Depot last weekend and they looked exactly like the ones my contractor buddy had. I even held one up to the old one I was replacing and it fit fine in the bracket. But now I'm paranoid. Are we talking a few millimeters off or like a whole different width? Because if they're lighter AND smaller that feels like some shady shrinkflation crap.

This whole thread is hitting too close to home. I had a buddy last summer who bought a whole pallet of those big box store pavers for a patio project. He stacked them up in his garage, and by the end of the week, three of them had cracked just from the weight of the pile on top. He called the store and they basically told him tough luck. He ended up hauling them back and getting the ones from a supplier instead. @bennett.nora, you're dead on about checking the size too; the cheap ones are usually smaller by a quarter inch or so, which is a nightmare when you're trying to make a pattern line up.
