Tbh, getting caught in a whiteout on the High Sierra Trail near Guitar Lake made me ditch my old 'just pack a fleece' rule for good.

Honestly, I was soaked and shivering for hours before a ranger found me, so now I always bring a proper waterproof shell and an extra thermal layer, even if the forecast looks clear.

That sounds rough, but honestly a fleece and some decent rain gear is still my go-to for most summer trips up there.

You really think a fleece is enough, @mila_brown10? I got caught in a cold snap last July and my fleece was soaked and useless in minutes. A proper insulated jacket with a waterproof shell is the only thing that kept me from turning into a human popsicle.

Yeah same thing happened to me last summer... never again without a proper shell.
