The voice memo trick that saved me from a dinner party disaster

Last month my sister dared me to recreate our grandma's secret gravy recipe from memory for her 40th birthday dinner in Portland. I swore I had it locked in my brain, no notes needed. By the time I got to the store I blanked on whether it was 2 tablespoons of flour or a quarter cup. I called my mom in a panic and she rattled off the whole list while I stood in the spice aisle. That's when I started recording every family recipe as a voice memo right when someone is cooking it. Now I have 14 saved and I label them with the date and who was talking. My sister still brings up how I almost ruined the turkey with instant potatoes as a backup. Has anyone else saved a conversation just to avoid a repeat awkward moment like that?
