My best friend's wedding speech somehow turned into a roast of my worst date
He was trying to be funny and said, 'Remember that time you went out with the girl who brought her pet ferret?' (which is a true story, from 2018). The whole room went quiet and just stared at me. Anyone else had a public story told that you thought was a private joke?

Oh man, the "private joke gone public" thing is the worst... I heard a story once where someone's embarrassing work email got read out loud at a party.

Okay but how bad can it really be? Like taylor_miller10, that email story sounds rough, but people forget stuff fast. Most of the time it's just a cringe moment that blows over. Unless you accidentally sent a rant about your boss to the whole company, it's usually not a career ender. Everyone has sent a dumb text or email they regret.
