A barista in Portland told me my eye contact was creeping people out and I've been overthinking it ever since
I was ordering coffee at this place on Hawthorne last month and the barista, mid latte pour, goes "hey man, you don't have to stare at me the whole time." I froze. I thought I was being polite. She said it was the dead eyed stare while I waited for my card to process, like 8 straight seconds of unblinking eye contact. Now I look at the pastry case or my phone and I still feel weird about it. Has anyone else been called out for something they thought was totally normal?
Omg yes this happened to me at a subway last year! The guy making my sandwich was like "you good?" and I realized I'd just been locked in on his face for like a full minute while he worked. Now I stare at the chips or the floor and it feels so awk but at least nobody's weirded out anymore lol.
