Got chewed out by an inspector about my wire labels last week
I was working on a Garmin G3X install in a Cessna 172 and he pointed out my labels were all handwritten and not heat shrinked. He said they'd peel off in 6 months and cause a nightmare for the next guy. How do you guys handle labeling bundles in tight spots where heat shrink is a pain?

Huh, "they'd peel off in 6 months and cause a nightmare" is pretty specific. I gotta ask - what kind of pen or marker were you using on those labels? I've found that matters more than the heat shrink sometimes, especially in a cockpit that gets hot. Like, if you were using a regular Sharpie on plain paper labels, yeah, that stuff fades or smears in no time. But there's some industrial pens that hold up way better, even without heat shrink, in my experience. Your mileage may vary though.

Hell yeah, you're overthinking this. The real problem isn't the pen or the heat shrink - it's the glue on the back of the label breaking down from UV rays in the sun. I've seen labels that looked perfect but the adhesive turned to dust, and they just fell off mid-flight.
