Sat in the back at a MARTA bus driver's roast at a spot on Edgewood and learned more than any app ever told me
Went out last Friday to a little comedy room off Edgewood with a friend who swears by the open mics around there. The headliner was a MARTA driver who spent 20 minutes just roasting the 4:30 pm Route 21 crowd, and he was dead on about everything. He pulled out an actual printed schedule, held it up, and said, and I quote, "the bus is not late, y'all are early." I laughed, but then he got real about why he waits that extra beat at certain stops, like the one by Grady, because people coming off shift are running. I take the 21 home twice a day and I never once thought about what it looks like from the front seat. Now I want to know, are there other drivers or locals who hang around these rooms talking routes and shortcuts? I will take any excuse to hear more of this.
Did you know the drivers actually hang out at the Krystal on Moreland after their shifts? A few of them swap route stories there and they do not mind if you just sit and listen, as long as you buy something. That beats any app for learning why the 4:30 bus does what it does, so swing by one night and you'll get way more than a comedy set.
