My 14 year old nephew asked why I still write things down on paper

He said he takes notes on his phone and never forgets anything, but I showed him my work notebook from a job 3 years ago where I sketched out a tricky corner measurement and he couldn't pull up a single note from last month - has anyone else found that writing stuff down sticks in your head way better than typing?

My old notebook from 3 years back still has my measurements for a weird angled wall in my basement... phone notes from last week? Gone. I swear my hand remembers the shape of the letters when I write, like the motion locks it in my brain. Typing just feels like I'm dumping words into a void.

That corner measurement story hits hard. My old notebooks from years ago have sketches of bar setups and liquor orders I'd totally forget otherwise. Does your nephew actually remember things he types out, or does he just rely on searching for it later and call that memory?
