My neighbor Joe convinced me to start composting after I saw his bin
For years I thought composting would just attract rats and smell bad. But last month I saw Joe carrying a bucket of kitchen scraps to his backyard at 7 PM... I asked him about it. He showed me his simple tumbling bin and even let me smell the finished dirt from his batch. That stuff just smelled like earth, not garbage at all. Has anyone else changed their mind about something after a short talk with a neighbor?

Wait, he actually let you smell his finished compost? That's the kind of neighborly trust I rarely see anymore.

hunt.nora, that trust is so real! I had a similar thing with my neighbor last year when she handed me a jar of her homemade pickles. It's funny how sharing simple stuff like that builds a bond. What worked for me was just being upfront about my interest, like "hey, I'd love to trade notes sometime.
