I just lost $60 on a 'miracle' drain cleaner that did nothing but make my sink smell like chemicals.
Has anyone found a real fix for a slow kitchen drain that doesn't involve calling a plumber?

Ugh, that's the worst feeling, isn't it? Pouring money down the literal drain. Have you tried the classic baking soda and vinegar trick yet? Boil a kettle of water, pour half a cup of baking soda down, follow it with a cup of vinegar, let it fizz for ten minutes, then flush it all with the hot water. It's saved me from calling someone more than once.

Yeah, that "money down the literal drain" feeling is the worst. I'd try what victorhill said with the baking soda first, it's cheap and works for basic gunk. If that fails, a cheap plastic snake is the next real step before anything else.

My old apartment had a sink that took 20 minutes to drain. I swore by the baking soda method until I saw a plumber use a simple plastic drain snake from the hardware store. That thing pulled out a hairball the size of a mouse.
