A volunteer at the Cahokia dig told me to look for the tiny black specks
She said, 'That's charcoal from their hearths, not just dirt,' and suddenly a whole house floor appeared. Anyone else had a find that just 'clicked' because of a small tip like that?

That bit about the tiny black specks making a whole house floor appear is so cool. It's like your brain just flips a switch and you see the whole picture. I had a teacher point out that a weird lump of clay was actually a piece of a broken pot handle, and it went from junk to a real object in a second. Makes you wonder how much stuff we walk right past because nobody gave us that one dumb little clue, lmao.

My buddy found an old car key in a field once, just a rusty piece of metal. Took him years to realize it was for a Model T. How many stories are just lying around like that, waiting for the right word to unlock them?

Remember being totally stuck on a creek bank full of weird flat rocks. An old guy walking his dog said to look for one with a little groove worn in the side. Spent an hour and then bam, found a perfect native grinding stone. How many times do we need someone to just point out the one dumb detail that changes everything?
