My old climbing gear felt like betrayal last Tuesday

I pulled out my 15 year old harness to show a new guy what we used to run with. The thing weighed twice as much as my current one and had no padding on the leg loops. Anybody else hang onto old gear for sentimental reasons or am I the only packrat?

Heh yeah, @veraj53's got it right, I heard old gear just turns into junk drawer stuff eventually.

Twice the weight no padding" reminds me my old rope bag doubles as a boat anchor now.

That old rope bag sure does get heavy fast. I had one from an outdoor shop that felt like it was full of rocks after a single climbing trip. Mine got so beat up I just left it in the garage for hauling firewood around the yard.
