I finally understood why topping trees is always wrong.
Topping destroys tree health and should be banned in our trade.

But sometimes topping is the only way to deal with dangerous limbs over power lines (saw it happen last storm season). It's not ideal, but calling for a full ban ignores real-world hazards.

My neighbor's oak got topped last year and it looks awful now. Honestly angela687 is right about proper pruning, even if it takes more time.
