A homeowner in Austin asked me why I was saving all the wood chips from his oak tree removal.

I explained we use them for mulch on site, and he got really excited about closing the loop in his own yard. He ended up helping me spread them around his new shrubs. Do you guys usually try to leave the chips for the client, or haul them away?

Leaving the chips is a win-win, and it's awesome when clients get into it.

Honestly we always offer to leave the chips on site unless the client says no. Tbh most people just see it as a big pile of waste to get rid of. But if you take two minutes to explain it's free mulch that saves them water and weeds, their whole attitude changes. I keep a couple pictures on my phone of how good it looks after a season to show them. It turns a job from just removal into a real service for their yard.
