Recalled paying $50 for a "universal" dryer belt that snapped 20 minutes in

Man, I gotta push back on that a little. Universal dryer belts actually fit most models pretty well since they're just a flat rubber band with specific length ranges. The real issue here is that the belt snapped in 20 minutes, which sounds more like a bad batch or maybe the belt was sitting on a shelf for years. I've used universal belts plenty of times and they usually last just as long as OEM ones if you get them from a decent parts store. The problem is probably the seller, not the part being universal.

Universal dryer belt that snapped 20 minutes in" - yeah I feel your pain but I gotta say this one's kinda on you. Universal parts are always a gamble. I bought a "universal" washing machine hose once and it leaked all over my basement within a week. You're better off spending the extra $10-15 for the actual OEM belt from the manufacturer. Those universal ones are made for like 50 different models so they never fit perfect. Just my two cents.

You know what, I used to be ALL about universal parts, thought OEM stuff was a waste. But honestly, after seeing this and thinking about it, you might be right. I've had my share of universal belts that worked fine for months, but that 20 minute snap is a REAL bad sign. Maybe there's something to spending that little extra for the peace of mind and knowing it'll actually fit right. I'm kind of rethinking my whole approach now, especially with stuff that spins or moves fast.
