Overheard a kid call a fix-it job 'old school' today
Was swapping a compressor in a 2007 Whirlpool fridge this morning in Cleveland and the homeowner's teenager watched me use a manifold gauge set. He asked if this was how they did it in the 'old days' before smart diagnostics. It got me thinking, how many of us still carry a manual multimeter versus just trusting the board readouts, and do you think the newer techs are losing the feel for the basics?

Had a guy bring in a 1970s Maytag last month that his grandkid called a museum piece. Kid then spent an hour watching him test the timer with a plain old meter and said it was like watching someone read a paper map. Half the "smart" boards I swap now fail from a five dollar part nobody bothers checking.
