Warning: a pilot in Boise last week kept insisting the rough idle was 'just a sensor' and didn't want us to pull the cowling.
Three hours later we found a cracked induction tube that was about to let go... anyone else deal with pushback on a simple visual check lately?

My mechanic in Tampa said the same thing about my truck's vibration last month. It's that same dismissive attitude everywhere now, not just in hangars. People just don't want to do the basic looking anymore.

Maybe it's not laziness but too many quick-fix options making real diagnosis seem slow.

But is it really about not wanting to look? @eva468 has a point about the quick fixes. I see it in my shop all the time. A customer comes in after trying three different fuel additives for a rough idle, when the real problem was a cracked vacuum hose you can spot in ten seconds. The easy stuff gets thrown at the wall first, and that wastes more time than just checking the basics.
