Hit 500 hours on a single engine type and it changed my whole approach

Always thought you had to be a generalist, but seeing the same patterns on 15 different Cessna 172s made me a specialist. Anyone else find a sweet spot with a specific airframe?

Wait, but doesn't that just make you worse at flying anything else?

Oh man, that clicks with me... I spent a whole summer just flying an old Citabria, over and over. After a while, you stop flying the checklist and start feeling the plane, like you know exactly how it'll wiggle in a crosswind. It got to the point where a new sound or a weird stick feel would tell me something was off before any gauge did. That deep dive just changes how you see the whole machine.

But isn't that just being a good pilot, like @hugomurray said?
