Finally found a trick for getting stubborn lockwire twists to sit flat

Ngl, I wasted 20 minutes on a fuel line lockwire job last week, kept getting these bumpy twists that wouldn't lay right. Switched to pulling the wire at a 45 degree angle instead of straight, and it flattened out like magic on the first try. Anyone else have a trick that made their lockwire look cleaner?

Funny enough, I found that putting a tiny dab of grease on the wire right where it crosses itself before twisting helps keep everything from sliding around. In my experience, it stops those little bumps from even starting. Makes the twists come out consistent and flat without fighting it. Take that with a grain of salt though, your wire might not like the extra slickness.

45 degrees huh? That's basically the lockwire version of "turn it sideways and it fits" (you know, the age old mechanic's motto). I tried the grease trick last week and ended up with a wire that was so slippery it shot out of my pliers and pinged off my forehead. Honestly at this point I'd rather have bumpy twists than a wire-induced headache, but thanks for the tip I'll probably try again when my pride heals up.

One trick I've used is putting a little bit of rosin on the wire before twisting it gives you grip without making it slippery. That stuff is cheap and lasts forever in your toolbox, too. Worked way better for me than grease ever did, and I haven't had any forehead dings since.
