Just realized I was preheating my air fryer like a fool for 2 years
I always ran it empty for 5 minutes before adding food, then last month I found a recipe that said just toss it in cold and add 3 extra minutes. Tried it with frozen fries at 400 and they came out way crispier. Anyone else been wasting time on preheating when it does nothing?
Oh wow, that's wild... I mean I've been doing the empty preheat thing for like a year and a half because every blogger swore by it. But here's something nobody's talking about, the preheat actually dries out the basket coating over time. I noticed my nonstick finish started flaking way sooner than it should have, and I'm pretty sure all those empty hot cycles messed with the surface. Plus when you think about it, the food itself brings the temp down anyway, so you're just reheating the air twice for no reason. I switched to the cold start method last week and honestly my chicken wings are better now, less dry on the outside too.
