I was totally wrong about frozen fries in the air fryer

For months, I just dumped a bag of frozen fries straight into the basket, set it to 400, and walked away. They were always okay, but never great. Then my friend Mike came over, saw me do it, and said, 'Dude, you're skipping the most important step.' He showed me to toss them in a bowl with just a tablespoon of oil and a pinch of salt before they go in. I tried it that night, and it was a total game changer. They came out so much crispier and actually tasted like something, not just hot cardboard. I think the little bit of extra oil helps them fry up right, since most frozen fries are designed for a deep fryer's oil bath. Now I feel like I wasted a lot of good potato potential. Has anyone else found a simple trick like this that makes a huge difference with frozen stuff?

Yeah, I started spraying mine with a little oil before cooking and it's a total night and day difference.

Tried that with my old pan last week and it actually worked. Honestly thought it was just ruined for good. Makes cleanup way easier too.

Actually, spraying oil on a hot pan can be a bad idea... the stuff in aerosol cans has a low smoke point and burns off fast. It can leave a weird sticky film. You're better off just wiping on a tiny bit of regular oil with a paper towel.
