I stopped preheating my air fryer and my frozen dumplings finally stopped exploding
Everyone in here swears you have to run it empty for 3 minutes first, but I got tired of waiting after work last Tuesday so I just threw in my Trader Joe's dumplings cold. They came out golden on the outside and actually cooked through instead of splitting open and dumping filling everywhere like they did the 6 other times I preheated. Has anyone else ditched the preheat step for frozen stuff or is it just me?
Question whether preheating even matters enough to fight about. People act like skipping it is some kind of crime against the air fryer gods, but it is just a tiny oven with a fan. My sister preheats hers for everything, even toast, and her food comes out the same as mine. Sounds like your dumplings were splitting because of steam inside, not because the basket was cold. Hot air hits frozen dough fast either way, so the preheat thing is mostly habit.
