The AI that kept telling me to water my plants backwards
Last month I set up a smart garden system with an AI that learns your watering schedule. For two weeks it kept telling me to water at 2 AM, which seemed insane. I finally looked at the data and realized it was reading the soil moisture sensor upside down, so it thought dry meant wet and vice versa. It took me three nights of watching it recommend midnight sprinkles to catch the pattern. The worst part is I actually followed it for 4 days before I trusted my gut over the app. Has anyone else had a smart home AI just completely misread a basic sensor like that? I'm curious if it's a calibration thing or if these things are just not ready for real plants.

Ugh, "water my plants backwards" is such a perfect way to put it, I feel for you. I had a smart thermostat that decided the house was fine at 85 degrees for a week, totally missed that the sensor was behind a curtain. It's honestly kind of scary how much we trust these little boxes before realizing they can be just as confused as the rest of us.
