Hot take: My crew thinks I'm nuts for still using a block plane

I sharpen my block plane every other week, more if I'm doing a lot of end grain. A few quick passes on a 1000-grit stone, then a leather strop, keeps it scary sharp. That edge lets it take off whispers of wood, not chips, which is key for fitting things like you said. A dull plane forces you to push harder and you lose that feel for the cut, then you're just as likely to mess up as with a power tool.

Fitting a replacement tube sheet in a home boiler repair showed me a gap in my knowledge

For home boilers, full penetration welds are key for a tight seal. sanchez.pat's gasket paste with tacks might not hold under pressure changes. Weld slowly with cooling breaks to avoid bending the metal.

PSA: My bulk rice buy turned into a bug problem

Read a tip online that you can freeze rice for a few days to kill any eggs before storing it. It sounds weird but it actually works lmao. I tried it with my last bulk buy and no bugs so far. The cold stops them from hatching or something. Now I always do that before putting rice in the pantry. Saves money and hassle compared to throwing out a whole bag.

I finally check drivers first for weird errors

Yeah, the "check drivers first" move saves so much headache. I used to dive deep into Windows settings for stuff like a USB port that kept disconnecting or random audio crackling. More often than not, it was just a chipset or audio driver from like two years ago. Grabbing the latest straight from the maker's site, not Windows Update, fixes it nine times out of ten.
