Compass vs phone maps on the High Sierra Trail

A compass "never fails" until you don't know how to use it right. My phone gives me a full topo map and my exact GPS spot, which a basic compass just can't do. For most people on trail, a charged battery and a backup power bank is way more reliable than trying to remember declination.

Flex hours turned into 24/7 on call for me

From what I've read, calling it 'boundary setting' makes it easier to ignore after-hours messages.

Watching a fade turn into a mess on wavy hair made me rethink my whole approach

For real, this is so true. What @gavin700 said about forcing solutions really hits home. My cousin has wavy hair and got a skin fade last year. It looked awesome for two days, then poofed out like a mushroom cloud. He was constantly wetting it down to look decent. Now he lets the top grow longer with a taper, and it actually suits his texture. Telling people the hard truth builds way more trust than just giving them what they ask for.

Yesterday, my slow cooker decided to boil over for no reason at all.

Did you try replacing just the rubber seal? My cooker is about five years old and started doing that last fall. Got a new seal online for like twelve bucks and it's been fine since.

I passed a job on Oak Road where the siding was butted tight to the trim. That's not how it's done!

Reading this makes me laugh because I once tried to 'fix' a gap with duct tape. Lasted about a month before the whole piece fell off. My neighbor still brings it up every time we talk about home projects. Guess I'm not the best judge of what holds up over time. But seeing your house fine for fifteen years does make me wonder if I just have bad luck with this stuff.
