Thinking back on hand-rubbed finishes

My first boss taught me to use linseed oil and a rag for weeks on a single piece. Now with modern hard wax oils, you can get a similar look in a day, but I still like the old slow way.

Don't most new things trade quality for speed?

Back in 2020, I launched a small online course. I rushed to finish it in two weeks, but the quality was bad and people had trouble following along. So I took a step back and spent a full month redoing the content with clearer examples. The improved course got much better reviews and fewer questions from students. For me, that showed putting in more time upfront can beat the rush to be fast.

My first course only had five lessons but I still had to redo three of them after launch. Adding concrete steps for each section cut student confusion in half (the support emails dropped big time). That extra week of editing made the whole thing way smoother for everyone.
