Showerthought: I always thought our shop's energy use was mostly from the furnaces

Read a breakdown from our utility last month that showed the sand system and dust collection actually pull more kilowatt hours over a year. Makes me rethink where to focus on saving power. Anyone else seen their plant's actual energy split?

Is the difference in power use that big? Those systems probably run all the time, so it makes sense they add up. Still seems like furnaces would be the main drain.

Look at my power bill last winter. The furnace ran a lot, sure, but the constant hum of the water heater, fridge, and that old basement freezer added up to a bigger chunk than I expected. Once I unplugged a few extra things and got a more efficient fridge, the bill dropped noticeably. Furnaces are a big drain in a cold snap, but those everyday systems are the silent budget killers.

Our furnace alone used 60% of our plant's power last quarter.
