I finally figured out my kraut was getting moldy because of a cheap airlock
Bought a no-name airlock set online for like $12 and it never sealed right. Lost 3 full jars of sauerkraut over a month because the lids kept letting in air. Anyone know a solid brand for airlocks that actually fit standard mason jars?

Yeah, those cheap airlocks are the worst. I switched to the Norpro brand and they fit standard jars perfectly.

My friend Deb lost six jars of kraut last year before she found a tiny crack in her jar rim.

Grantp28 has a good point about Norpro. Honestly though, sometimes the jar lip itself is the problem. A tiny chip or factory flaw can mess up any airlock seal.
