Switched from a standard rounding hammer to a cross pein for setting clips

The cross pein lets me drive the metal exactly where I need it without glancing blows. My clips on a draft horse last week were set in half the time and looked cleaner. Anyone have a preferred hammer weight for this job?

It's funny how the right tool for the job makes everything click. I see it all the time, like using a kitchen knife to open a package versus just grabbing the scissors. That focus from the cross pein must be a game changer. For weight, I settled on a 32 ounce hammer for most of my work. It gives enough force without wearing my arm out after a full day. Lighter felt like I was fighting the metal, and heavier was just too slow to control.

@bennett.nora ever try a 28 ounce?

Sounds a bit intense for a hammer, bennett.nora.
