Just realized how much a horse's weight changes their hoof growth

I was reading an old farrier journal from the 90s and it mentioned a study where draft horses grew hoof wall almost 30% faster than lighter breeds. Found it in a stack of papers at my uncle's place in Kentucky. It makes total sense now why the big guys need trims more often. Anyone else adjust their schedule based on the horse's size?

My Percheron needs trims every five weeks like clockwork. The quarter horse I used to ride could go almost two months. It's a huge difference.

That study from the 90s is interesting... but I've never really seen it play out in my own barn. My big warmblood goes a solid eight weeks between trims, same as my little quarter horse mare. Their feet just seem to grow at their own pace... weight might be one factor but I figure genetics and diet matter a whole lot more.
