A peek at my neighbor's compost pile flipped my view on food waste
I never thought much about where my food scraps go. Her pile showed me they can turn into something useful. Now I have a small bin in my backyard, and it's really simple.

Watch how it changes what you buy at the store. Once I started composting, I stopped buying those plastic clamshells of salad greens because the container won't break down. Now I grab loose heads of lettuce or kale instead, since the outer leaves and stems go right in the bin. It forces you to see packaging as future trash in a way recycling never did. You start picking foods based on what will actually turn back into dirt, not just what's easy. That pile in your yard starts to edit your shopping cart.

Skip pre-cut veggies, too much plastic waste.
