Old timer told me to stop running my cutterhead so fast in muck

He said I was just churning up silt instead of cutting, so I dropped from 28 rpm to 18 on a job in Port Canaveral last month and my production actually went up. Anyone else get called out on a bad habit that made you rethink your whole approach?

Good for you for listening. That old timer probably saved you a bunch of wear and tear on your gear. I had a guy tell me to stop trying to dig my bucket in so deep on soft ground, said I was just making a mess. I slowed down and lightened up the bite, and my cycle times got way better. It's tough to unlearn habits you thought were working, but it's worth it when you see the numbers go up.

@charliestone yeah slowing down is hard but it works. Glad that old timer set you straight too.

Oh man I feel this in my bones. I used to run my loader bucket way too aggressive on soft ground and an old hand finally told me I was just making a mess of the material instead of actually digging. Slowed down and lightened up and suddenly I wasn't just spinning my wheels anymore. Guess I was trying to look busy instead of productive.
